The main opposition in Uganda has raised alarm over the sudden mass disappearance of members of the opposition party in the country, alleging President Yoweri Museveni of kidnapping those considered a threat to his government.
The leader of the opposition, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, who has been under house arrest since January 14, 2021, had announced that the latest victim of Museveni is Mukasa Kenneth.
According to him, Kenneth has been whisked away by the deadly security men of Museveni and as at the time of this report, his whereabout is not known.
He said, “Panda-gari’ is back in full force. Political activists and ordinary citizens now dread these vehicles called drones. Countless Ugandans have been abducted and taken to unknown places. Mukasa Kenneth, a comrade is the latest victim. Kidnapped yesterday, no one knows where he is”.
The word “Panda-gari” in Uganda simply means “Climb the truck”. The truck does not take one person at a time but many people. This means that whatever vehicle being used for the operation may arrest between 50 and 80 persons, and in most cases, they will never be seeing again.
It was explained, “As a result, Panda Gari never took one person at a go. Panda Gari is an arrest/abduction by the Obote/Museveni government. The Panda Gari was started by Obote and more than 50-80 humans would be loaded on a big truck never to be seen again. These exercises would start at 5am in all the Kampala suburbs and a lot of early risers including school kids perished”.
It will be recalled that series of African eminent individuals have called on the international community to wade into the political crisis in Uganda with the aim of halting the human rights abuse going on in the country.
