A human rights activist, Mohammed, the son of late Gani Fawehinmi and Nollywood actress, Rachael Oniga were both buried today in Nigeria.
While Mohammed was buried in the Fawehinmi Family compound in Akure, Ondo State, Oniga was buried at a private cemetery, at Omega Homes, Ojudu, Lagos.
The pattern of funerals were different. While local media were allowed to cover Mohammed’s funeral and people of different classes allowed to pay their last respect, only BBC was allowed to covered Oniga’s funeral as her family members intimidated other members of the Nigerian media including Punch Newspaper, who were attempting to cover it.
Speaking at Mohammed’s funeral, the former governor of the state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko said that the deceased lived for what he believed in, including justice for the common man.
He said that Mohammed was passionate about justice for people, fought for the rights of Nigerians, lived a good life and carved a niche for himself.
The deceased’s sister described him as a caring, selfless, generous and understanding man, who loved his family and everyone.
The Chairman, Centre for Human Rights (CHR), Ondo State chapter, Comrade Afred olorunwo, popularly called Comrade black, noted that the human rights family would missed the deceased, saying that many of the cases he handed for human rights organisations were done pro bono.
