Moji Afolayan-Olayiwola, a Nigerian actress and daughter of the legendary Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan, popularly known as Ade Love, has responded to concerns from her fans about her reduced visibility in the film industry.
Moji expressed frustration with film marketers and producers, stating that she is not being offered roles because she does not belong to certain cliques within the industry. “They have turned the work into a caucus system. If you don’t belong to their group, they won’t invite you to work,” she lamented.
She criticized the movie marketing system for fostering a culture of promiscuity, alleging that roles are sometimes exchanged for sexual favours. “I don’t engage in sexual favours for roles. If you’re unwilling to sleep with marketers, they won’t offer you jobs,” she asserted.
The actress further emphasised that she has never been involved in extramarital affairs, proudly stating, “I can walk freely in the movie industry because none of the marketers have ever slept with me. If you don’t sleep with them, they won’t give you roles. But I thank God, none of them has ever touched me.”
In addition to these challenges, Moji highlighted other difficulties in the industry, including the non-payment of actors’ fees and the expectation of kickbacks for roles. “After actors and actresses have done their part, they often face challenges with getting paid or are asked for additional compensation to secure future roles,” she said.
Moji also provided insight into the acting legacy of her family, noting that six of Ade Love’s children, including herself, Adekunle, Adetayo, Gabriel, Olumide Aremu, and Funmilayo, are active in the industry.
Addressing questions about why her brother, Kunle Afolayan, does not frequently cast her in his films, Moji explained, “Our father was not sentimental, and neither are we, his children. You are only asked to play a role if you are competent. Kunle has always said that at the right time, he would give me roles. I acted in Anikulapo and other works of his. I have been involved in his projects, and I continue to work with him.”
Moji, who is married to veteran actor Rasak Olayiwola, popularly known as Ojopagogo, also made an unusual appeal to her fans, requesting their support in purchasing a car. “I don’t have a car. I know God will send one of my fans to bless me. I would really appreciate it if someone could buy me a car. Actors and actresses bring you joy, and one way to show appreciation is by sowing back into our lives.”
