The immediate past Deputy Governor in Oyo State, Otunba Moses Adeyemo has returned to University of Ibadan (UI), to pursue a Master Degree in Peace, Security and Humanitarian Studies, under the Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies.
Also, in the class with him are three aides of the immediate past Governor of the state, late Senator Abiola Ajimobi: Secretary to the Government of Oyo State (SSG), Olalekan Alli, Head of Service (HoS), Soji Eniade, and Senior Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy, Bolaji Tunji.
The astute politicians are in their second semester, first year and they are expected to round off first quarter next year, if strike action does not delay them.
Information revealed that Adeyemo is very active in the class.
Alake Adeyemo, a member of All Progressive Congress (APC), served two terms as the deputy governor in late Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s administration.
The ex-deputy governor was yesterday sighted among his course mates in the UI Department of Peace, Security and Humanitarian Studies holding rally within the school premises to mark International Day of Peace.
Alake Adeyemo was born on April 4, 1950 in Igboho, Oorelope Local Government of the state. He had his elementary education at Baptist Central School, Oke-Afin, Igboho and DTC Secondary Modern School, Saki, between 1956 and 1963.
He, thereafter, relocated to Ghana for further studies, where he obtained the Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ (Grade 2) from the Evangelical Presbyterian Teachers’ Training College, Bimbilla, Ghana in 1970. On the successful completion of his training at the college, he worked briefly as a teacher in Bolagatanga (the capital of Upper Region, Ghana), during which period he continued to study privately until he eventually passed his G.C.E. ‘O’ Level papers in flying colours in 1972.
The quest for further education led to his enrolment for the HSC full-time study at Navrongo Secondary School, Upper Region, Ghana in 1972, where he successfully passed his G.C.E. Advanced Level papers in 1974.
He returned to Nigeria in 1975 to pursue a bachelor’s degree programme in Finance at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and graduated with B.Sc. (Hons.) Finance in 1979. He observed his mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme at the defunct Bank of the North, Ahmadu Bello Way, Kaduna, between 1979 and 1980.
Afterward, he worked in the then WEMA Bank Plc as an officer-in-training in October 1980 and left the bank as a senior manager after 10 years and moved to the North-South Bank Ltd in October 1990. After working in various managerial position, he voluntarily retired.
He joined active partisan politics as a progressive during the dispensation of the Alliance for Democracy-led administration of Governor Lam Adesina in Oyo State.
During the period of Lam Adesina, he served as the chairman, Transition Committee of Saki East Local Government between June 2002 and May 2003. At the completion of his term, he attended University of Ibadan to pursue a postgraduate degree programme in Banking and Finance and completed the programme in 2004.
He was subsequently engaged as a consultant to midwife the transformation of Osanta Community Bank Limited, Igboho, to a full-fledged microfinance bank in line with the policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria, between August, 2006 and August, 2007. As a result of the success, he achieved in this regard, he was fully integrated into the bank’s management as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer in the post-recapitalisation dispensation. He served in this capacity until he became Oyo State deputy.
