The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), has commended the Governing Council of the University of Ibadan (UI) for approving the promotion of members up to CONTISS 15.
According to a statement signed by the institution’s spokesperson, Adejoke O. Akinpelu, the commendation was given during a courtesy visit of the National/Zonal Executive Committee of the Association to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale and his management team.
The Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Joseph O. Olurinde thanked the VC for the training and retraining of NAAT members and for giving a piece of land to the UI Branch for its Secretariat.
Olurinde noted that the NAAT is an Association of professionals not known for hooliganism, adding that the association uses collective bargaining and peaceful negotiations to get the entitlements of its members.
The Zonal Coordinator further commended the VC on how he has been handling staff matters since he assumed duties and urged him to implement the promotion to CONTISS 15 in the 2022 promotion exercise.
He appealed to the management of the nation’s Premier University to be magnanimous in appointing NAAT members to head certain departments like Equipment Maintenance Centre and the Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory.
Reacting, Adebowale noted that there is a dearth of technologists in the University due to retirement, change of career paths and resignation, assuring that the University would not relent in training and re-training the technologists.
Commending the UI Branch of the NAAT for being mature in airing their grievances, the VC stated that there should be no competition between the Academics and the technologists as each professional is a master in his field.
Prof Adebowale assured that the University will within its means continually train and re train the Technologists.
