The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed counterfeit and expired drugs, unwholesome processed foods, and substandard products valued at ₦4.7 billion in Rivers State.
According to the NAFDAC DG, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, the disposal exercise was carried out at the Aluu dumpsite in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Among the seized items were unregistered cosmetics, imported vegetable oil without mandatory Vitamin A fortification, and two 40-foot containers of unregistered drugs handed over to NAFDAC by the Nigeria Customs Service in Edo State.
Reaffirming its commitment to public health and safety, NAFDAC urged stakeholders and the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to counterfeit or substandard products.
The agency emphasised its dedication to ensuring that only safe and high-quality products reach consumers.
