The Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), on Thursday July 8, 2021, conferred the award of Regular Fellow to six leading humanistic scholars and Honorary Fellow to the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Reverend Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah.
Among the new Fellows of NAL are the Acting Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Adebola Babatunde Ekanola, Director/ Chief Executive Officer, (CEO), of the Nigeria French Language Village, Badagry, Professor Lateef Babatunde Ayeleru and playwright and theater director, Professor Ahmed Parker Yerima.
According to a statement signed by the Secretary, Nigerian Academy of Letters, Professor Ayobami Kehinde, Head, Department of English, University of Ibadan, other eminent scholars conferred with the prestigious award are: Professor Frank Maduabuchi Dukor, Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi and Professor Isidore Okeawolam Diala.
Kehinde, in the statement pointed out, “They have been admitted into the prestigious Fellowship of the Academy on the basis of their outstanding contributions to scholarship and extension of the frontiers of knowledge in their various subfields of the Humanities. The Fellows of the Nigerian Academy of Letters are a group of distinguished scholars of the humanities, nominated and elected in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the humanistic scholarship”.
