The Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), has conferred the award of the Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters on four erudite scholars in the University of Ibadan (UI).
The four scholars are among the 10 leading humanistic scholars admitted to the Fellow of the Academy.
The new Fellows, who will be officially invested on August 10, 2023, are the immediate past Head of Department (HOD), English, Professor Ayobami Kehinde (Literary Studies) – Regular Fellow), the former Deputy Director of UI Distance Learning Centre (DLC), and the institution’s incoming Dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor Solomon Oluwole Oyetade (Languages) – Regular Fellow), Professor Herbert S. Igboanusi (Languages) – Regular Fellow) of the Department of Linguistics and African Languages, and Professor Isaac Olawale Albert (Interdisciplinary & Multi-disciplinary Studies) – Regular Fellow, Dean, Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies.
According to a statement dated May 25, 2023, and signed by NAL President, Professor Duro Oni, other leading humanistic scholars admitted into the College Fellows are: Professor Asabe Kabir Usman (Literary Studies) – Regular Fellow), of the Department of Modern European Languages and Linguistics, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Professor Egodi Uchendu (History) – Regular Fellow), of the Department of History, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Olufunke Asake Adeboye (History) – Regular Fellow), Department of History and Strategic Studies of the University of Lagos, Professor Emmanuel Samu Dandaura (Theatre, Visual and Performing Arts)– Regular Fellow, of the Department of Theatre and Cultural Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Irene Isoken Agunloye (Theatre, Visual and Performing Arts) – Regular Fellow, of the Department of Theartre and Communication Arts, University of Jos and Professor Akinbiyi Akinlabi (Languages and Linguistics) – Overseas Fellow, of The State University of New Jersey, NJ (Rutgers).
According to the statement, Oni stated, “Today, May 25, 2023, I am delighted to announce that ten leading humanistic scholars have been conferred with the award of the Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL). They have been admitted into the prestigious Fellowship of the Academy based on their outstanding contributions to scholarship and extension of frontiers of knowledge in their various subfields of the Humanities. The Fellows of the Nigerian Academy of Letters are a group of distinguished scholars of the humanities, nominated and elected in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the humanistic scholarship.”
“The ten new Fellows have been elected following a robust review process; they have been recognised for the excellence of their research outputs”, he added.
