The newly appointed Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Anamekwe Nwabuoku, officially resumed today at work amidst jubilations and praises from the staff.
Nwabuoku’s appointment followed the indefinite suspension of the Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, who was indicted for fraud worth N80billion by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Upon his arrival in a Toyota Jeep, his staff waiting to receive him were seen welcoming him and helping him to carry his suit and other things from the car and were seen congratulating him.
Some of the staff were seen clapping and dancing.
Anamekwe hails from Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, of Imo State.
Anamekwe Nwabuoku was born on 15th October, 1962 to the family of Robert O. Anamekwe in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
He holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting from the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu, as well as a Master of Science (M.Sc) in Financial Management from Commonwealth University in Belize. Between 1992 and 1995, he worked for the Centre for Democratic Studies (CDS), where he advanced to the post of Principal Accountant.
From 1996 until 2001, he worked as an Assistant Chief Accountant at the Office of the AGF in Abuja. From 2001 to 2003, he worked as a Special Assistant to the Senate President on Public Affairs at the National Assembly’s Office of the Senate President, where he provided Advisory Services to the Senate President on Media and other matters.
He was appointed Chief Accountant and Head of Accounts Administration at the Ministry of Defense Headquarters in Abuja.
From 2009 until 2012, he was in charge of Funds at the Ministry after being promoted to Assistant Director, Accounts.
In 2012, Anamekwe Nwabuoku was promoted to Deputy Director (Accounts) and assigned as Supervisory Officer of Ecological Funds Accounts and other relevant topics to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
In 2017, he was promoted to Director (Accounts) and assigned to the Federation’s Office of the Head of the Civil Service. From May 2019 to March 2021, he served as Director (Finance and Accounts) at the Ministry of Defense Headquarters in Abuja.”
