The CEO/Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has expressed shock at how some ladies rescued from Mali have returned to the country.
Dabiri-Erewa expressed this in a video posted on her X handle on Tuesday, titled “Addressing the video circulating on Nigerian girls in a prison in Mali,”
She pointed out that despite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to ensure the return of stranded nationals in foreign countries, Nigerians should be cautious not to engage in criminal activities or irregular migration.
She said, “I want to address again a viral video going round about some girls shouting from a prison in Mali asking to be returned back home.
“Sometimes ago, the chief of defence staff actually helped us to bring back almost about forty to 130. They have identified some of these girls they were brought back that time. That they found themselves back in Mali is shocking.
“In as much as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed that wherever Nigerians are stranded, we have to ensure they are back. He also warned them not to commit crimes and criminality.
“So, the office of National Security Agency (NSA) is in charge of the multi-agency team on evacuation and the office of NSA has been bringing back people.
“Those who committed crimes and have finished serving their sentences, and those deported – we want to appeal they need to obey the law of other countries.
“Crime, criminality and irregular migration is very deadly now. As much as the mission is working, trying to see on many people they can bring back, please, be law abiding.
“Where you are running to is even worse than where you are running from. Let us behave properly and obey the laws of the countries.”
