Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, and Senior Special Adviser on Diaspora Matters to the President, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has declared that the planned evacuation of Nigerians abroad would begin this week.
Nigeria is joining other countries in the world to evacuate their citizen as a result of Coronavirus pandemic.
According to her, as at the time of filing this report, 3000 Nigerians are expected to be airlifted from 75 countries and brought to Nigeria.
Dabiri-Erewa noted that the evacuation would be in phases, urging the concerned individuals to get updates from their various missions abroad.
She urged Nigerians abroad who want to be evacuated to formally apply through the nation’s foreign mission, stressing that the scheme covers only those who have formally applied.
However, information gathered revealed that there are agitations among Nigerians in some countries including India as they are not sure whether there is a plan for the stuck ones to be evacuated.
One Sunday Okin from India had notified that a general surgeon is stuck in India since he finished his laparoscopic surgery training, likewise one Oladapo Adu would like to know if Nigerians from West Africa like Côte Dvoire and Abidjan would benefit from the evacuation arrangement.
