In a landmark year for cybercrime enforcement, the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) has recovered a massive N8.82 billion, 115,237.91 USDT, and $84,000 from cyber criminals, restituting the funds to victims of fraudulent activities.
According to the Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, these recoveries underscore the force’s commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring justice for those affected by cybercrime.
The NPF-NCCC also made significant strides in curbing cybercrime operations, arresting and prosecuting over 751 suspects within the past year.
The unit confiscated 685 devices used in criminal activities, including 467 mobile phones, 137 laptops, 46 routers, 4 servers, 1 drone, and 4 Starlink devices.
Additionally, authorities seized 16 houses, 39 plots of land, 14 land documents, and 26 vehicles connected to cybercrime operations, dismantling infrastructure critical to these illicit networks.
In recognition of its outstanding performance, the NPF-NCCC was named the Best Cybercrime Unit in Africa for 2024 by the INTERPOL Cybercrime Directorate in Singapore, emerging first among 54 African nations.
Adejobi stated that this prestigious award highlights the unit’s dedication to enhancing digital safety and combating cybercrime.
Adejobi also revealed that continuing its operations, the NPF-NCCC recently apprehended four suspects—Douglass Victor, Egbo Efe Martins, Lucky Adesunloye, and Ndifreke Joseph Moody—for various cyber-related offences.
He added that these achievements reflect the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering resolve to safeguard the nation’s cyberspace and protect its citizens from the growing menace of cybercrime.
