“The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have announced plans to source Jet A1 fuel exclusively from Dangote Refinery, marking a significant shift in the aviation sector’s fuel supply strategy.
This decision was revealed by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo (SAN), in an exclusive interview with Channels Television. ‘The airline operators recently met and, with my endorsement, decided that they will purchase Jet A1 fuel exclusively from the Dangote Refinery,’ Keyamo stated.
He further explained that a new Naira-based purchase agreement with Dangote had been launched: ‘The transactions will be conducted entirely in Naira, without any Dollar component.’
According to Keyamo, this arrangement is expected to provide price stability. ‘The price of Jet A1 fuel will no longer fluctuate based on international market conditions or oil price volatility. Since the transactions will be in Naira, we can ensure more consistent pricing. I am confident that this will lead to cheaper Jet A1 fuel,’ he said.
This move is expected to stabilize the cost of jet fuel in Nigeria, a significant step for the aviation industry as it grapples with rising operational expenses.”
