Police in Anambra State have arrested nine suspects in connection with the murder of Justice Azuka, a member of the State House of Assembly.
The State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, announced the arrests during a media briefing on Friday in Awka. According to Itam, a joint team of police operatives and Anambra State vigilante personnel discovered Azuka’s decomposing remains on the Second Niger Bridge on Thursday.
Azuka, who represented Onitsha North Constituency 1, was abducted in Onitsha on December 24, 2023.
The suspects, identified as Ugochukwu Onuorah (30), Ikemefuna Ossai (20), Ikenna Orugu (27), Chibuike Obiefuna (19), Chinonso Olisa (19), Chinedu Okoli (21), David Ojini (25), and Peter Sunday (20), are currently in police custody.
Peter Sunday, described as the most notorious among them, has a tattoo across his chest reading, “No peace 4 d Government.”
Authorities recovered two pump-action guns from the suspects, and one of them sustained a gunshot wound during a confrontation with police operatives.
The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement intensifies efforts to bring all those involved to justice.
