The Minister of State, Labour & Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has revealed that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have suspended the nationwide strike action to protest the deregulation of oil industry and increase in electricity tariff.
According to Keyamo, Federal Government and the Labour unions, which commenced a dialogue around 8pm yesterday, reached an agreement at 2:53am.
He notified Nigerians that at the meeting parties agreed for deregulation to stay and suspended electricity tariff for two weeks to determine its justification.
While eight Labour leaders signed the agreement document to suspend the strike, six from the side of the Government signed.
Those that signed on the part of Labour are: NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, TUC President, Quadri Olaleye, NLC, Secretary General, Emmanuel Ugboaja, TUC Secretary General, Musa Lawal Ozigi, NUPENG President, Williams E. Akporeha, PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo, President NUEE, Martin Uzoegwu, President SSAEAC and Chris N Okonkwo, Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, Minister of State Petroleum, Timipre Silva; Minister of State Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN); Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, Minister of Power (State), Godwin Jedy-Agba and the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha signed on the part of the Federal Government
Others who attended the meeting were Chairman, National Electricity Regulatory Commission, James Momoh, Special Assistant to the President on Infrastructure, Ahmad Zakari as the Secretary and Onoho’Omhen Ebhohimhen, Joe Ajaero (NLC).
