The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has dismissed reports of an explosion at the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) in Rivers State, clarifying that the incident in question was a flare event that has been fully contained.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm. He emphasized that the flare incident posed no danger or health hazard to refinery staff, nearby communities, or the environment.
“NNPC Ltd. urges the media and the public to disregard any reports suggesting an explosion at the refinery, as they are entirely false,” Soneye stated.
The company reiterated its commitment to safety and environmental responsibility, assuring stakeholders that operations at the refinery remain stable and secure. It also called for responsible journalism to prevent the spread of misinformation that could cause unnecessary panic among the public.
