The Federal Government appears to have carried out its threat of not paying the backlog of salaries to the members of the Academic Staff union of Universities (ASUU) as the members have started receiving ‘amputated’ October salaries.
Some lecturers told PrimeStar News that the government only paid half salaries for the month of October.
It would be recalled that the striking members of ASUU suspended their 8 month old strike on October 14. 2022.
It was gathered that those that have received their salaries were shocked that despite the interventions of eminent Nigerians, especially the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, leading to the suspension of the strike action, the government went ahead not to pay the full salaries.
A member of the Union at the University of Ibadan (UI) told our correspondent that the members are awaiting further directives from the ASUU executive on the way forward
