Following the lockdown in Nigeria as a result of the outbreak of Coronavirus, the National Open University of Nigeria, (NOUN) today conducted online matriculation exercise for 15,000 newly admitted students online.
Speaking at the 19th matriculation exercise, the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdalla Adamu urged the students to join the government in fighting COVID-19 by doing everything possible to curb the spread of the virus.
Adamu admonished the new student to take as a building block any challenge confronted during their academic pursuit adding, “One block at a time, and you will erect a mansion. You are in the best position to do this because your learning is powered by your personal desire to learn”.
He said that the irony of the school is that while many students enter higher institutions in order to become educated and get jobs, the matriculating students at the institution already had jobs and occupations and some are even at the top in their different offices.
Pointing out that all academic programmes in the institution are fully accredited, he said, “Our programmes, quality assurance and delivery mechanisms are, therefore, more solid than those of many conventional universities, who keep coming to us to see how we work this technological magic”.
The institution’s Registrar, Felix Edoka administered the matriculation oath online on the students.
