The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s (NPF) commitment to addressing misconduct among its officers.
Adejobi made this statement in response to various complaints about police officers engaging in unethical activities, including extortion.
One such complaint, which caught the attention of the police spokesperson, came from Bauchi State. Residents alleged that officers attached to the Yelwa Division were arbitrarily arresting betting shop owners and their customers in areas such as Yelwa Tudu, Yelwa Lebra, Rafin Zurfi, and Gwalameji.
A complainant questioned the legality of such actions, asking, “Since when did betting or owning a betting shop become a crime in Nigeria?”
Reacting swiftly, Adejobi condemned the actions of the implicated officers, stating, “We will go after those officers who are recalcitrant and disobedient to the policies and directives of the IGP. Those few individuals who are bent on tarnishing the image of the Force will be severely dealt with.”
The NPF has consistently emphasized its zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and urged the public to report any unethical behavior by officers for necessary action.
