Following Hon. Shina Peller’s presentation of a bill on the floor of the House of Representatives, seeking the scrapping of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC) Amendment Act 2007, the security agency has withdrawn all its personnel attached to the lawmaker.
The NSCDC notified the federal lawmaker about the withdrawal of its men in a letter titled, “Withdrawal of Personnel ” and dated February 2, 2022, saying that the withdrawn personnel needed to be deployed for urgent national security assignments.
The withdrawal was a directive of NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
The letter signed with reference number NSCDC/OY/173/VOL.III/196 and signed by HOD Administration, DCC Sotiyo Igbalawole E. reads:
“Following the directive of the Commandant General on the necessity of the deployment of the command personnel for an urgent national assignments.
“On behalf of the state commandant, I hereby withdraw all the personnel attached to you, this is to meet up with the urgent national need.
“Any inconveniences this might cause is highly regretted.”
In another development, Director of Public Relations, DCC Odumosu Olusola, has dissociated the agency from the withdrawal of its men from Hon Peller, saying that the CG did not give such instruction as claimed.
According to Odumosu in a statement, the officer who signed the letter did so without recourse to the constituted authority stressing, “Not only did the officer in question lacked the power to do such, he was also found to have acted on his whims without clearance”.
He said, “Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, directed a reinstatement of the withdrawn officers “with a compliment of necessary courtesies”.
