The National Teachers Institute, (NTI), Kaduna and University of Ibadan (UI) have resolved issues surrounding outstanding results for the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), which was delayed for some time.
The NTI, Kaduna runs PGDE and Bachelor’s Degree in Education, in collaboration (affiliation) with six Nigerian Universities for the PGDE and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and University of Maiduguri for the Degree programme.
In 2017, the NTI, after consultation with relevant stakeholders and the desire to enhance quality, wide acceptance and accessibility to every interested Nigerian, decentralised its initial affiliation of the PGDE with Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto and later with NOUN, to six universities across the six geo-political zones. This decision was taken after the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The six universities are: Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (North West), University of Maiduguri (North East), University of Ilorin (North Central), Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka, (South East), University of Port Harcourt (South South) and University of Ibadan (South West).
While the Memorandum of Understanding on the affiliation agreement have been signed between the NTI and five of the six universities, that of UI is still being perfected. Consequently, all the outstanding result for the five zones already completed were approved and released to the students by the universities.
According to the NTI Acting Director General, Mallam Bashir Mamman, the delay in the release of the results was caused by various incidences or circumstances including: the closure of universities due to Covid-19 pandemic, ASUU Strike, affiliation processes, time needed to process result and uploading the students’ data on the university portal (as in the case of UI).
Mamman, who was represented by the Deputy Director (Test Development), Dr Ibrahim Bala, noted that each university has unique ways of processing and issuance of results and certificates, therefore, the duration or time required to release result may defer.
He said, “Based on the progress made so far with the University of Ibadan, students’ results for the South West will soon be released. We are at the final stage of the exercise, which is the uploading of the students’ data on the University’s portal. As soon as this is concluded, all the result will be released. With this development, all students’ results in the zone will subsequently be released on time. As from the current academic session, no student result will be delayed since all the affiliation processes are been concluded with the university”.
Mamman assured that the NTI is committed to providing quality teachers for the country by training teachers while on their jobs, stating that all the institutes’ activities and programmes are made flexible and favourable to students.
The NTI Boss said, “The delay in the release of the PGDE students’ results, particularly, that of the South West, is one of the institute’s hard times since its inception.
“The Institute hereby appreciate the patience exhibited by the students. In the next couple of days, all the outstanding results will be released and subsequently, results will be released as and when due”.
Corroborating the position of NTI, the UI Director of the Directorate of Affiliation, Professor Wole Akinsola revealed that the results of the students are ready and would be released soon.
