The National Universities Commission (NUC) has confirmed that universities can begin to reopen from January 18, 2021.
This was contained in a memo addressed to all Vice Chancellors signed by NUC’s Deputy Executive Secretary (Administration), Chris J. Maiyaki.
According to the memo, “while Officers on Grade level 12 and below remain at home for a period of five weeks, as earlier directed by the Federal government, schools, including universities, are to re-open on the 18th of January 2021, consistent with the directive of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) team on Covid-19.”
Any further development, Maiyaki said, would be communicated to the universities.
The universities were reminded of the need to adhere to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, guidelines on Covid-19.
On the protocols and guidelines universities are expected to enforce, Universities have “severally” been communicated to, through circulars.
“I am to add that, universities, on resumption of academic activities, must under no circumstance, violate the full cycle of the semester system, consistent with the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC),” Maiyaki added.
He warned that extant quality assurance standards and guidelines of the universities must also be left unviolated.
