National Universities Commission (NUC), have ranked Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, Covenant University, Otta, Ogun State and Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, as the best private universities in Nigeria.
According to the commission’s 2021 University System Ranking, these three universities beat the nation’s premier private universities: Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, which came fourth in the private category, but eight overall best, Igbinedion University, Okada, Benin State, came last and Madonna University, Elele – Rivers State, Okija – Anambra State and Akpugo – Enugu State (unranked).
In the overall ranking, while University of Ibadan (UI) was ranked first, Redeemer and Covenant were ranked second and third respectively and ABUAD, Babcock and Igbinedion were ranked 6th, 8th and 112th.
In the federal university category, UI, Federal University of Technology, (FUTA), Akure, Ondo State and University of Ilorin located in Ilorin, Kwara State, were ranked first, second and third, while Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Edo State University, Iyamho, Edo State, and Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State, were ranked 1st, 2nd and third at the state level.
