The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), has reiterated that the seven-day ultimatum issued to an oil giant, Chevron Nigeria Ltd (CNL) and its service contractors to recall the 175 sacked contract workers still stands.
NUPENG gave the ultimatum last Thursday August 20, 2020, saying that if the oil company fails to accede to its demand, a strike action would be declared against the company.
The Union’s position was made known in a statement signed by its National President, Mr Williams Akporeha and General Secretary, Mr Afolabi Olawale and made available to the newsmen.
The reaction was sequel to a report which quoted CNL management saying that it had engaged the union over the sacked workers and efforts are being made to resolve the logjam, denying any meeting with the management of the oil company regarding the sacked workers
The statement says, “No such meeting took place; the seven-day ultimatum remains intact. The union urges members to ignore the report, continue to be on red alert and mobilise for the impending strike at the expiration of the ultimatum”.
