Ogun State Police Command has arrested three armed robbers operating in the Mowe and Ifo areas of the state.
According to Punch, a suspect identified as Matthew Segun smashed the head of a motorcyclist with a hammer on Tuesday before fleeing with his motorcycle.
Segun, it was gathered, had earlier stopped the motorcycle and begged to take him from the Old Bank Bus Stop to Igbese in Ifo.
It was learnt that the motorcyclist told Segun to disembark when they reached Gbese, but Segun insisted that he should take him further down the route. Segun hit the motorcyclist with a hammer on the crown of his head causing the biker to be unconscious and fell off the bike, hence Segun was able to abscond with the motorcycle.
Upon regaining consciousness, the motorcyclist and the owner reported the incident at the Ifo Police Division.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPROP), Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident and stated that other commercial motorcycle riders in the area assisted the police team in apprehending Segun.
She explained, “The suspect is a member of a syndicate responsible for snatching motorcycles from commercial motorcyclists in the area. The suspect will soon be transferred after the preliminary investigation is completed.”
In another development, two suspects believed to have stolen a car along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have been arrested.
The suspects were said to have been acting suspiciously along the road and immediately fled when they saw the police approaching the area.
After arresting two of the suspects, the police said they had begun a manhunt to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Speaking on this incident, Odutola said the suspects had boarded the Corolla car in Lagos and that they sprayed some chemical substances on the face of the driver, which made him lose consciousness.
Following this, she explained that the suspects dragged the driver out of the car and immediately bolted the scene.
Odutola stated, “We have arrested two of the suspects. Our men are on the trail of the other suspects who participated in the robbery. The suspects will be transferred to Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.”
