A prominent politician, High Chief Abiola Ogundokun, has urged the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to prioritise effective governance over engaging in what he described as frivolous activities.
Ogundokun advised the governor to refrain from politicising state matters and instead focus on fulfilling his responsibilities in line with the oath of office he swore to uphold.
Reacting to a petition reportedly filed by Governor Adeleke to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against his predecessor, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, over an alleged misappropriation of a $20 million World Bank health grant, Ogundokun emphasised the need for focused leadership in Osun State.
In a statement on Friday, the elder statesman warned Adeleke against deviating from the vision of the state’s founding fathers. He urged the governor to build upon the solid foundation laid by his predecessor rather than attempting to undermine his achievements.
Acknowledging Oyetola’s impressive track record in both the private and public sectors, Ogundokun commended his diligence and adherence to due process. He noted that despite Oyetola’s integrity, some elements have attempted to tarnish his reputation.
“I advise Governor Adeleke to stop using the esteemed Office of the Governor as a tool for political vendettas and petition writing. Instead, he should channel the state’s resources toward improving the lives of the people, rather than engaging in acts of intimidation and witch-hunting,” Ogundokun stated.
He described the petition against Oyetola as a distraction, arguing that Adeleke should concentrate on governance rather than pursuing perceived political adversaries.
“Writing a petition against a man like Oyetola is akin to chasing shadows. The governor has a huge task ahead, and meeting the expectations of Osun people should be his top priority, not waging an unnecessary political battle,” he added.
Ogundokun further hailed Oyetola as a distinguished leader and a pride to Osun State and Nigeria. He urged the people to support Oyetola’s continued contributions to the state rather than attempting to discredit him.
“There is nothing substantial about this petition; it is merely political theatrics ahead of the 2026 governorship election. Why waste state resources on such distractions?” he queried.
The Iwo-born politician cautioned Adeleke against what he termed a “destructive campaign” and called on well-meaning individuals to support Oyetola in moving Osun State forward.
