The Ondo State governorship election held across the 18 local government area of the state on Saturday, October 10, 2020 was characterized by massive vote-buying.
Political party agents at several polling stations confirm the voter’s votes and pay them the agreed sum despite the presence of security operatives.
It was gathered that the All Progressives Congress (APC) distributed between N5,000 and N10,000 to voters, while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) distributed between N2,000 and N3,000 to voters.
However, in some polling stations, voters revolted against the agents. Policemen on ground in a polling station in Owo had to rescue a man who was about to be lynched by an angry mob.
The unidentified man, who claimed to be an election observer at Ward 4, Polling Unit 15, Shagari Market along the Owo-Benin Highway, was accused of approaching voters to sell their votes when he was reportedly attacked.
As at the time of filling tjis report, voting has been concluded across the state, collation and counting are in progress.
