Shortly after the inauguration of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps by Governor Seyi Makinde, the security outfit swung into action and within a very short period began to record success in curtailing the activities of criminals in the state. So far so good, the corps has demonstrated that in a right atmosphere, it has what it takes to demystify crimes and criminals, thereby making the state a save heaven for whosoever desires to live in it.
The Amotekun Corps have arrested criminals at the nooks and cranny of the state and handed them over to the police. The fear of the police currently is that if the group should continue at the pace it is going, the police cell across the state may be overstretched and lack space to keep the criminals.
Among the areas of Ibadan that is feeling the heat of the corps is Egbeda, where the outfit had carried out different operations successfully. On January 8, 2021, the outfit arrested a suspected criminal at Wakajaiye area, close to Baale’s house.
The suspect, who had succeeded in breaking into a shop and house was arrested while attempting to break into another house in the same area. He confessed that he sells his stolen property to someone at Mokola Area of Ibadan. In his possession at the time of his arrest was clothes that he stole and charms.
Also, on January 9, 2021, the outfit arrested some suspected gangs and armed robbers along Alakia/Isebo Road. It was gathered that the notorious robbers incessantly attack the area, without restrictions.
Among the arrested robbers who have been handed over to Iyaganku Police Station are: Opeyemi Toheeb (a.k.a. photo) 25yrs, Luku Wareez (a.k.a. Omo mummy) 24yrs, Olagunju Toheeb 24yrs., Adeyemi Adebisi (a.k.a Adex) 23yrs, Alade Tobi (a.k.a. Ekuru) 18yrs, Quduz Osunkwye (a.k.a. sir kudex) 18yrs, Waheed Taiwo (a.k.a. Small) 18yrs and Adedotun Ayobamia (a.k.a Figo) 25yrs.
Recovered from the suspects were cutlasses, knife, axe, bag of charms and a basket gas cylinder. All the suspects have been handed over to the Iyaganku Police Station.
Furthermore, following a distress call by the Caretaker Chairman for Akinyele Local Government, Amotekun operatives arrested two suspected hoodlums: Wareez and Abdullahi along Bank Bus Stop, Moniya. Dangerous weapons were recovered from the hoodlums.
Likewise, on January 1, 2021, Amotekun Operatives had successful operations in different parts of Ibadan.
Among the successful operations was the arrest of a suspected armed robber, identified as Sunday Emmanuel, 25. Emmanuel, who came from Enugu was arrested at Aba-Ibeji, Odo Ona kekere around Arapaja area, New Garage, Ibadan and he had been handed over to the Orita Police Station.
Another suspected criminal was also apprehended at Kolajo Area, Olomi, Ibadan by the Amotekun operatives.
The suspected hoodlum, who lived in Osun State but comes to Ibadan for operation is Elijah Ajala, aged 32yrs. A small generator called “I better pass my nieigbour” was recovered from him.
Also, three suspected armed robbers were arrested around Sabo Area of Ibadan and dangerous weapons were recovered from them. The suspects were: Nabim Sani 18yrs, from Sokoto state, Abari Isaac 19yrs, Kano State and Abubakar Muhammed 28yrs from Kano State.
The operatives have equally recorded success in other parts of the state including Oyo Town. Some hoodlums, who specialise in barricading roads to extort innocent citizens were arrested and handed over to Ojongbodu Police Station. The hoodlums are: Ibrahim Kamal 20yrs, Samsideen Jelili 21 yrs, Hakeem Ayinde19 yrs, and Salam Ojo.
Also, four suspected armed robbers, who had a show down with the combined team of Amotekun and Vigilante at Alemiboro, Atisbo Local Government met their waterloo. One of them was shot dead, while others escaped. The robbers were identified to be Bororo/Fulani, who incessantly rob villagers and travelers of their belongings.
The Group has also engaged some Fulani herdsmen at Oorelope, Saki East and Olorunsogo, who had wanted to gain entrance to the state.
