The Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. (Dr) Wasiu Olatubosun has reeled out reasons why Governor Seyi Makinde should be given second term, saying that in all ramifications, his achievements surpassed that of his predecessor.
Olatubosun stated this today at the secretariat of the Oyo State Correspondents’ Chapel in Ibadan, stressing, “Makinde should be reelected in 2023 governorship election in the state”.
The commissioner said he has commenced political evangelism on behalf of the state governor based on the much he has given to the state.
Highlighting the achievements of the incumbent government, the commissioner said that the governor has dissipated energy and resources in making the state free from criminals by establishing the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun and continual support of all the security agencies.
He said apart from having 1500 members of Amotekun, which is far higher than what other states in the region have, the state government is planning to recruit more staff for the agency so that they can better police the state.
According to him, CCTV has been installed in the border areas, particularly border post between Oyo and Ogun and other strategic areas of the state for security surveillance, adding that the government regularly release logistic to all the security agencies as well as regularly engaging them on the security situation in the state.
He pointed out that the state government is not relenting in tackling bandits, saying that their activities are been foiled before they are carried out.
Regretting the recent bandits’ attacks at Onigari Area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, he alleged that the terrorists are lunching attacks from Ogun State end because it is not convenient to operate from the Oyo State end, adding that the state has initiated collaboration between the Ogun and Oyo States police to secure the expressway. “We are prepared to get rid of bandits in Oyo State. We have equally strengthen the local government by making N10m available to them every month to secure their environment”, he added.
Olatubosun further explained how the government of Makinde has expanded the economy by creating environment that encourages the youth to go into farming, pointing out that the government has trained over 200 youth in agribusiness and the government is working hard with banks to provide loan facility for farmers. “We are using infrastructure to expand economy. Road construction are also tied to economic expansion”, he added.
According to him, the government of Seyi Makinde has paid over N16billion for retired civil servants as gratuity less than three years of his administration, compared to about N8billion paid by his immediate predecessor, pointing out that the government ensure that pensioners are paid their pension on the 25 of every month alongside the serving civil servants.
He noted that the physically challenged individual are well taken care of by the incumbent government, stressing, “We have continued to give attention to people with disability”.
Olatubosun said that over 200 people living with disability have been employed in all arms of the government, including hospitals, schools, as well as offered political appointments including councilor, supervisor, Senior Special Adviser/Assistant, among others.
