The Oyo State Government has recently warned all private hospitals in the state engaging the services of quacks, auxiliary nurses and non-professionals to desist or face sanction.
The government equally frowned at facilities that employ or train auxiliary nurses in their health facilities, describing the act as quackery.
The Director, Secondary Health Care and Training, Ministry of Health , Dr Wale Falana, who led Oyo State Task Force on Private Medical Practice to some facilities in Ibadan, declared that there was no room for auxiliary nurses and quackery of any form in the health sector of the state.
He emphasised the need for those willing to become medical personnel to attend established and accredited medical schools to prevent unforeseen circumstances.
He stated, “As far as Oyo State Government is concerned, auxiliary nurses are quacks. Often, those claims to be auxiliary nurses, mostly do not meet the criteria to attend accredited schools where they can be trained as professionals. Facilities find culpable for any offence that regulates private health practice in the state, stand to face penalties”.
Falana, however, called on owners of private facilities operating in the state without accreditation and people that need information as regards criteria for registration of any Health facility, to visit health ministry without further delay.
The Areas visited during monitoring exercise include, Idi Ayunre, Ido and Oluyole local government areas of the state.
