The Oyo State Government has partnered with US based Diaspora Grassroots Support Initiative, Royal Wellness International, Mercy SAID NO, Precious Sight Foundation and Optimum Health& Empowerment Foundation on free health medical screening for residents in three local government areas s in Ibadan.
The four local government areas the free medical programme will hold are: Ibadan North, Akinyele and Lagelu local government areas.
The free medical programme will provide health education will attend to patients with High blood pressure, Diabetes, Cataract, Glaucoma and Dental problems as well as perform minor extractions, give medications and eye glasses.
Speaking at the event held at the Ibadan North Local Government, PHC, Oluwo Nla, Bashorun, Ibadan, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Taiwo Ladipo, said that the programme was borne out of the present administration’s concern for the well-being of the people and to provide quality free healthcare delivery.
Ladipo, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Miftau Ayoola, explained that the present administration is working to ensure all citizens across the state enjoy good health, maintaining that the free medical mission is to bring free medical services closer to the people.
According to him, ”The state governor made health as one of the cardinal points. So, Oyo State Government, in collaboration with Royal Wellness International Inc is the reason we are here today. There will be provision of free medical mission, free medical treatment including free drugs as well as free laboratory services for the people of Oyo state. This place is part of the place we visited and we are going to spend 4 days here in Bashorun. Tomorrow, we will be at Akobo and after tomorrow, they will be at Akinyele. Lastly, they will give lectures at the school of science as well as students from the College of Nursing.”
He implored all the residents of the area to come out en-masse to benefit from the free health treatment that has been taken to their doorsteps, adding that free drugs, free eye services, free dental services would be provided to all participants on no cost.
“Health is wealth. So, I am imploring people around this environment to come and enjoy these free services so that the treatment would be given free. Free drugs would be given to them, free eye services would be provided as well as free dental services and the treatments are free. So, I am imploring indigenes of Oyo state that are here to come out, both sick and well to come and enjoy these free services. BP checks will be done and people that have problems will be treated and those that are to be referred will be referred. Screening for Diabetes will be done and people that don’t know if they have diabetes can come as well”, he added.
Earlier, one of the partners representatives, Dr Mide Lawson, revealed that NGOs have been involved in free medical programme for the past 12 years to give back to the people.
“We believe if we can save one life, it means we can save a generation. So, that was what motivated us to be here,” Lawson said.
