Oyo state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has directed the immediate closure of all schools in the state till after Easter break, as part of measures to curb possible spread of coronavirus.
The Governor gave the directive at a press briefing held at the government house following a meeting of the state task force on the coronavirus.
He also announced that an emergency and diagnostic centre would be set up within the next 72 hours while the maternity centre at Olodo, Ibadan would be redesignated as a state infectious disease centre.
Governor Makinde also announced the suspension of the free health mission and employee verification exercise but however admonished that the number of worshippers at religious centres should not exceed 50 persons, adding that leaders of religious centres in the state were at liberty to determine precautionary measures to take in curbing a spread.
While confirming that the state still do not have any positive case of coronavirus as the suspected case of UK returnee in Bodija tested negative, he urged institutions and residents of the state to adhere to hygiene measures like washing of hands and using sanitizers adding that the state will purchase protective equipment with two ambulances specially designated for the operation.
