The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has barricaded the entrance of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), demanding the reinstatement and payment of minimum wage for over 3,000 sacked employees.
Led by its chairman, Comrade Kayode Martin, the union mobilised members to IBEDC’s office early this morning to press home their demands on behalf of the affected workers.
Comrade Martin condemned the actions of outsourcing agents who, he alleged, have failed to pay employees the mandated minimum wage while making unaccounted deductions from their salaries.

He called on Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and other relevant stakeholders to intervene, warning that the mass dismissal of 3,000 workers could pose a serious security threat to the state.
The NLC chairman also urged IBEDC’s management to engage in dialogue and resolve the dispute amicably before the situation escalates into a full-blown crisis.
During the protest, demonstrators blocked the road from Challenge to Dugbe, disrupting vehicular movement and preventing motorists from accessing the route.
