The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Tuesday June 16, 2020, reported 30 new cases of Coronavirus in Oyo State, bringing the total cases in the state to 605.
According to the Centre, a patient died of the virus, bringing the total number of deaths to eight.
Out of 605 total cases confirmed, 355 are currently on admission and 242 have been treated and discharged.
Giving an update, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State stated “The COVID-19 confirmation tests for thirty suspected cases came back positive. The cases are from Ibadan SW, 8) Ido, 4, Ibadan NW, 4, Ibadan SE, 3, Ibadan NE, 2, Ibadan North, 2, Ona Ara, 2, Saki West, 2, Oluyole, 1, Lagelu, 1, and Itesiwaju, 1, Local Government Areas. So, the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State today is 605. Sadly, we had one COVID-19 related death. So, the total number of deaths in Oyo State is eight”.
It would be recalled that despite the daily increase of cases of Coronavirus, the Governor of Governor Makinde has ordered the resumption of civil servants and students in critical classes next week and upper week respectively. Worship centres have also been allowed to open with conditions.
However, the resumption of both students and civil servants is already generating fear among residents as they wonder how students, especially would be able to manage the spread of the virus.
