The Oyo State Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Comrade Segun Abatan has said that retirees would, henceforth, be getting their pensions immediately after retirement.
Abatan stated this at a 2-day Sensitisation/Training Programme for Prospective Retirees of Primary School Teachers and Local Government Service held in Ibadan on Monday, 15 July 2024.
“This was made possible by Governor Makinde of Oyo State, who has taken bold steps in making retirement more attractive for the State workforce”, he added.
Earlier speaking, the Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, noted that the state government would continue to prioritise the welfare of pensioners in the state.
Oni revealed that the government had increased monthly gratuity payments from N250 million to N500 million at both the State and Local Government levels making a total of N1 billion monthly to clear the backlog of gratuities being owed faster.
