In preparation for the implementation of the financial autonomy for the local government administration, thead of the proposed financial autonomy for local governments, the Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the 2025 capital budget proposals of the 33 local government areas in the state.
The approval was made today, when the report of the House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and State Honours, was presented by its Chairman, Hon. Akintunde Olatunde Emmanuel,
The budget approval is aimed at streamlining expenditures of all the 33 local government areas for probity and accountability.
The committee urged all the local governments to adhere to the approved capital expenditures to ensure compliance with the Constitution and Local Governments Law.
Part of the recommendations of the committee is for the Oyo State House of Assembly and the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) to organise a workshop on budgeting and budgetary control for chairmen and management staff to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
Speaking, the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, stated the approval of the local governments’ budget is a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
Ogundoyin added, “As the Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, this is the narrative we are pushing across the country in preparation for the proposed financial autonomy for local governments in Nigeria.”
