The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of all chairmanship and councillorship seats in the local government elections conducted across the state on Saturday.
Announcing the results at a press briefing in Osogbo, OSSIEC Chairman Hashim Abioye, confirmed that the PDP secured a sweeping victory in all 30 local government areas (LGAs) and Area Councils.
Despite initial controversies surrounding the election, Abioye described the process as peaceful and successful.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who cast his vote in his hometown of Ede, praised residents for their participation and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to grassroots development.
The elections proceeded following a ruling by the Osun State High Court in Ilesa, which upheld the process after a lawsuit filed by the PDP.
The ruling paved the way for the polls, culminating in a landslide victory for the ruling party.
While opposition parties are yet to formally react to the outcome, political analysts anticipate debates over the transparency and competitiveness of the electoral process in the state.
