One of Africa’s most talented actors, Chief Peter Edochie, has broken silence over the second wife, Judy Austin, his son, Yul Edochie, a Nigerian actor took, saying that Yul’s first wife, Mary Edochie remains his most loved among his sons’ wives.
Speaking with Chude Jideonwo, Edochie attributed the success of Yul’s home to Mary, stressing, “The success of that home is to Mary’s marriage.”
Claiming that he was not part of his son’s second marriage as he claimed that the family suddenly hear that Yul has picked up a second wife and he did not know anything about it, Peter Edochie said, “Mary is not just a daughter-in-law. I don’t want to say I love Mary more than the other wives of my sons. The love I have for Mary is so strong, why? The father and I were very close. When we went for the traditional marriage rite in their place, the kind of reception their people gave me, I will never forget. Mary is a girl I love to the marrow. By the way, she is a wonderful person. Mary is a very very brilliant girl. You may not know that. Mary is a computer wizard, that lady you are looking at. To a very large extent, the success of that home is to Mary’s marriage. Marry is a wonderful person. Marry is a wonderful woman. A lot of people, who have been advising her wrongly, trying to see if they can sunder the link between her and her husband do not have good homes.”
According to him, he does not interfere in his children’s affairs, saying that he was taken by surprise when he heard that Yul, 41, wanted to be a governor.
He said, “First of all, Yul is 41. I don’t interfere in his affairs. No. Suddenly we heard he picked up a second wife. I did not know anything about it. It was when he wanted to run for governor or something like that. When I saw his photograph, I thought they were in production. Somebody phoned me and said you know something, Yul is running for governor. I said, how? I never heard it. I have five sons, I don’t interfere with their lives.”
Peter Edochie lamented the high rate of divorce among female actresses, stating, “If you come to our industry today, most of our girls, who got married some two or three years ago have all left their husbands. I was even shocked to hear that Chioma Chukwuka, left her marriage. Ireti Doyle, Tonto Dike. You take a vow when you are going to get married for better for worse. You will always think it is greener on the other side. That is the mistake that we all make.”
He revealed, “Of all the girls who have played my daughters in films, somehow it is Genevieve Nnaji I love most. I came to look at her as a daughter. She is a very brilliant lady, exceptionally brilliant lady.”
