It’s been six weeks since our churches last opened for official Sunday services and we miss Church so much. Here is a long poem by Demo Timothy who also misses church, obtained from facebook page of Apostolic Faith Church, Abesan.
EVERYTHING ABOUT CHURCH
I still can’t say goodbye
To everything that changed
Because I was not ready for it
Especially church.
Church? I miss everything about church
Everyday I replay the scenario of
A typical Sunday
I still see in the eye of my mind,
The dutiful ushers approaching the church with haste,
The dusty empty seats craving some dusting
The electronics department crew fixing wires
Checking the mics and sound systems
Then it’s nine o’ clock all of a sudden
The workers all huddled together
Seated on sits heated with prayers
The men cloaked with jackets and ties
The women with their overflowing skirts and hats
Praying the spirit fire down on knees bent with the flame of passion
I miss everything about church
The ministers filling out of the prayer house
Walking down to seats padded with responsibilities
And soon the music from loud organs
Fills the house of God
Rousing kneeling souls to rise up
As their hearts rings with joyful hymns
And anthems from the gospel songs
The blend of angelic harmonies
Resonates from the choir and orchestra
On a typical Sunday maybe they’ll sing
Blessed assurance or amazing grace.
I really miss the memory verses and Sunday school
The question and answers and the reviews
I can almost here the crispy pages of bibles turning
As the preacher says “our bible reading”
Then the power packed sermons
That waters dried eyes and lifts fallen hearts
I cannot forget and that’s why I’m sad
Because all of a sudden it has been seized from us
We fear the Sunday worships
Like a military warship,
We have fled our anointed seats in defeat
For fear of a disease
The empty seats speaks volume than the dusty mics
I envision the pulpit covered in disgrace
The termites of indifference eating up the days
Days filled with emptiness
The ushers and choirs are now jobless
Devout members are now devoid of the urge
To go to church early and cry for mercy
And we all blame it on a certain disease
The same disease we are called to impale
The power from above we have hastily disgraced
And I miss everything missing about Church
And if not for our bibles we’re at the devils clutch.
I would give anything to go back to church
I would forget anything for His anointed touch
And right now as I kneel and pray
All I ask for is God’s grace
And a revived renewal of our faith.
SO…..Tell us WHAT YOU MISS ABOUT CHURCH
