The Nigerian Police today said that it arrested six members of a notorious kidnapping gang terrorising the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, saying that the suspects are currently in custody, cooperating with ongoing investigations.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who revealed this on his Twitter page noted that the Police force has effectively addressed the kidnapping crisis that has plagued the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Adejobi further revealed that the Intelligence Response Team of the police (FID-IRT) had encounter with the suspects who recently laid ambush for the police at Ohoro Forest, Ughelli Delta State, leading to the gruesomely murder of some policemen.
According to him, the men of FID-IRT engaged these suspects and neutralised some of them adding that 10 out of the police rifles in the custody of the suspects have been recovered.
He reiterated, “During a coordinated operation, the gallant operatives of the FID-IRT engaged the suspects in a gun duel which led to the neutralization of some of the suspects while the police operatives successfully reclaimed ten (10) of the stolen weapons, and recovered some arms used by the assailants.”
“The IGP has reassured the public that the Police will continue to employ all necessary measures to combat criminal activities across the nation as the safety and security of Nigerian citizens remain the top priority, and the Force is committed to maintaining peace and order through diligent and proactive efforts. He reiterated the determination of his leadership to creating a safe and secure environment for all citizens while appreciating their support and cooperation.”
