The men of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a woman known as Blessing Ogunu who framed up her kidnapping to raise N4.8m. She was arrested with other two members of her gang: Esther Anthony and Ukpebor Joel
According to the Command, Samuel Prince Omomuzo of no 102, Ihama Road, Benin City reported the kidnapping case to the police, seeking police assistance to rescue the kidnapped victim.
The Edo Police Command explained, “the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit received a complaint from one Samuel Prince Omomuzo of No 102, Ihama Road, Benin City that one Blessing Ogunu, a staff of Bliss Legacy Limited, Benin City was kidnapped.”
“The kidnappers demanded four million, eight hundred thousand naira (#4,800,000.00) ransom. The operatives using technical intelligence, arrested the supposed victim of kidnap, Blessing Ogunu, Esther Anthony and Ukpebor Joel. During interrogation, Blessing Ogunu confessed that she masterminded the whole process of herself being kidnapped because her company refused to allocate land to a customer whom they had collected money from. The suspects will soon be charged to court”, the command concluded.
In another development, the Command arrested a 22-year-old young man identified as Francis Okoye Obinna who had in his possession a pistol and POS.
The police explained, “This young man Francis Okoye Obinna ‘m’ age 22 years old, boarded a bus from Lagos heading to Anambra State and was intercepted by operatives of the Edo State Command while on purposeful stop and search along Benin-Lagos expression way on 07/04/2024.
“Furtherance to their investigation, the operatives of the Command embarked on investigation activities to Lago to ascertain the truth about his statement. On getting to Lagos, it was discovered that the suspect was telling lies about his confessional statement.
“Investigation continues to know how he came about the gun and the POS, what he used it for.”
