The Force Public Relations Officer (FPPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi has confirmed the arrest of Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti for assaulting a policeman at the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
Seun is the son of the late Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti, also known as Abami Eda, a Nigerian musician, bandleader, composer, political activist, and Pan-Africanist.
According to Adejobi, Seun Kuti is currently under interrogation at the State CID Panti.
He condemned any act against attacks and assaults on Police officers, describing it as evil and criminal.
However, Some Nigerians have taken to social media to condemn Seun’s attack on a policeman, saying that the act is contrary to what he preaches.
Babajide Otitoju, a veteran journalist and General Manager of TVC demanded that Seun should be made to face the full wrath of law.
Some of the comments on social media include:
OLALEKAN@Adeyemi9763: “I am not in support of what Seun did and I totally condemn it, I just wish the Nigeria police can use the same energy to arrest MC Oluomo and others.”
Ade Osinaike@AdeMacOsinaike: “Very very evil and criminal. Even extremely annoying for ” you don hit my car that happens every day. Diligent prosecution is what we demand so that the time can be done for the crime done.”
FutureSenator of Nigeria@Joshogbonna2: “So many policemen had been dismissed, prosecuted, and demoted for assault on the citizens of Nigeria! Now that a citizen has assaulted a police officer let the same hand of justice be extended to this individual.”
However, some Nigerians have condemned handcuffing the musician since he submitted himself to the police. Among them is:
Aliyu Wale Nonso (Chintex) @pricelesslytag: “Is it within the provisions of best practices for you to post his pictures on interview with cuffs online?”
Enthusiastic Ayọ̀mírìndé@olammypo01@: “{What’s the handcuffs for? To calm our nerves? To show you fit do pass yourself.”
