The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has obtained approval from the Presidency to arrest Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, for giving the Fulani in Oyo State an ultimatum to leave the state, hence, the IGP has ordered the state commissioner of police, Ngozi Onadeko, to arrest and transfer him to Abuja for prosecution.
Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, said during an interview with BBC Hausa that the IGP has ordered for the arrest of Igboho during an interview with BBC.
Garba was quoted saying, “Igboho is among topics that have generated public discuss on social media in Nigeria on Friday since he visited Igangan in Ibarapa Local Government (of Oyo State) where he insisted that all Fulani residents in Oyo State, must leave as long as kidnapping continues”.
He said government was having a hard time punishing (such) offenders because of the activities of human rights organisations.
Garba Shehu said the order given by the Inspector General of Police, for now, is that Igboho should be arrested and brought to Abuja to be taken to court to face prosecution.
Igboho, a Nigerian human right activist, politician and business man reacted to the genocidal atrocities being perpetuated by Fulani in the South West, saying that such acts are no longer acceptable.
He said that he could no longer fold his arms watching the Fulani kidnapping the Yoruba for ransom, killing, raping, robbing and destroying farms of the indigenes and the Buhari-led government is doing anything.
