Following the alarming insecurity in Nigeria leading to incessant attacks of innocent Nigerians by different terrorists groups, the Senate has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately sack all the service chiefs and replace them with new ones, who will inject fresh idea on how to tackle insecurity in the country.
This call was a reaction to the recent attack in Katsina by bandits resulting in the death of 16 soldiers and 28 injured. The soldiers killed include a captain, a major and a lieutenant.
Also, due to lapses in the nation’s security. and the inability of the Federal Government to properly kit the military to face and defeat the terrorists, it is learnt that 365 military personnel have voluntarily dropped their resignation letters.
However, in a swift reaction to the demand of the Senate, the President has pointed out that it is his exclusive function to appoint and sack service chiefs, stressing that it is not the business of the Senate to determine the service chiefs that will work for the nation.
According to Femi Adesina, one of the spokesperson to the Presidency, President Buhari has noted the resolution of the Senate asking Service Chiefs to resign or be sacked.
He concluded, “The Presidency reiterates that appointment or sack of Service Chiefs is a Presidential prerogative, and the Commander-in-Chief will do the best for the country at all times”.
