President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of Professor Habu Galadima, the Director General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), describing him as an intellectual colossus who stood tall in the field of scholarship and knowledge.
According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, while commiserating with the deceased’s family, friends, the government and people of Nasarawa State, Predisent Buhari said, “Galadima was an eloquent and remarkable intellectual whose contributions to scholarship were vast & remarkable, & Nigeria will continue to remember him for these contributions”.
He added that “with the death Galadima, NIPPS and Nigeria at large has lost one of the best DGs ever appointed to head the institute”.
A statement announcing the demise of the DG signed by the Director of Administration, Brigadier General CFJ Udaya (retd) read: “On behalf of the Board of Governors, Management and staff of the National Institute, we regret to announce the sudden demise of the Director General/CEO of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies NIPSS, Prof Habu Shuaibu Galadima which occurred this morning 20th December, 2020 after a brief illness.
“He will be buried according to Islamic rites”.
Born in 1963 in Toto Local Government of Nassarawa State, Professor Habu Galadima received early education at Shafa Abkpa Primary School and Federal School of Arts and Science, Suleja. He then proceeded to the University of Jos, where in 1987 he obtained a degree in Political Science. In search of further specialisation in International Relations and Strategic Studies, he pursued postgraduate training in his Alma Mata, earning the MSc degree in 1990 and PhD in 2006.
He joined the University of Jos in 1990 as Assistant Lecturer, he rose to become Reader in 2004 and full-fledged Professor of Political Science in 2009. He held many positions in the University, ranging from Coordinator of Departmental programmes, to Head of Department of Political Science and Deputy Director Academic Planning.
Professor Habu Shuaibu Galadima was appointed DG of NIPSS in August 2019.
