President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has barred journalists from having access to Uganda’s main opposition candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
An International Correspondent, East Africa, Eyder Peralta revealed this on Twitter.
Bobi Wine has been restricted to his house after the election, with heavy security agents blocking him inside the house.
“I had an interview scheduled with Bobi Wine this morning at 930 am. We were told by security agents that we had no clearance to enter his house”, Peralta said.
“Luk Day, was also denied entry. The agents said we needed clearance from police HQ. But we have all the necessary documents to report in Uganda and we are trying to interview a presidential candidate”, he added.
He said, “More than a dozen journalists tried to walk toward Bobi Wine’s house, but without asking questions or telling us anything, police in riot gear waved us back as they walked toward us. The security deployment across Kampala is astounding. Military, police, prison guards, SFC, are spread across the city. They are in hills, in buildings, they are patrolling the streets. One man told me, everyone is scared”.
“As I tweeted earlier, journalists are not being allowed into his home. He says his phones have been shut and over the past few weeks, his whole campaign team has been arrested”, Peralta reiterated.
