In a keenly contested election for the 2020-2025 Senate Representatives on the joint Council/Senate Joint Selection Board for the appointment of the 13th Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba of the Department of Psychology and his colleague in the Department of Mathematics, Professor Ezekiel Olusola Ayoola, have emerged the winners.
Olapegba, the immediate past Dean, Faculty of the Social Sciences and Ayoola, Head of Department of Mathematics, polled the highest votes of 362 and 352 respectively, to emerge winners and become part of the cynosures in the Premier University to decide who will lead the institution for the next five years.
The election, which was conducted by Electronic voting on Monday, September 21, 2020, between 8am and 3pm, had the total number of nine candidates jostling for the two slots.
The candidates are: Professors Peter Olamakinde Olapegba, 352, Ezekiel Olusola Ayoola, 352, Oyesoji Aremu, Institute of African Studies, 136, Ademola Omobewaji Dasylva, Department of English, 94, Opeyemi Isaac Ajewole, Forest Resources Management, 84, Adesoji Adedipe Fasanmade, Department of Physiology, College of Medicine, 77, Victor O. Adetimirin, Department of Agronomy, 67, Ganiyu.O.Arinola, Department of Immunology, College of Medicine and 20, Mojeed Kolawole Akinsola, Arts and Social Sciences Education, 20.
The election was in pursuant to the provisions of the relevant Act of the University, with specific reference to the appointment of Vice Chancellor.
