The Governing Council of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) has elected the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Kayode Adebowale, as a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (FAAS). Adebowale is a professor of Chemistry.
Also elected, according to the Vice Chancellor of the nation’s Premier University, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, is another top scholars and researchers of the institution, Professor Grace Olusola Gbotosho.
Professor Gbotosho is from the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences and the Pioneer Head, Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy.
According to Olayinka, the Fellowship of the African Academy of Sciences is in recognition for one’s outstanding contribution to development of science, technology and innovation on the African continent.
“With this preferment, Professors Adebowale and Gbotosho are entitled to use the designatory letters FAAS after their names. I am sure you will like to join me in congratulating our two colleagues for once again distinguishing themselves through this honour and distinction. We have always been exceedingly proud of them”, he said.
In a letter dated August 10, 2020, addressed to Professor Adebowale and titled, “RE: Your Election to the African Academy of Sciences Fellowship as a Fellow”, AAS stated, “Accordingly, I take this opportunity to congratulate you on the success of your election to the AAS Fellowship. You can proudly display this recognition by adding ‘FAAS’, after your name and/or signature. We look forward to your acceptance of this recognition”.
The letter, signed by the Ag. Executive Director, Prof. Catherine Ngila, added, “We, at AAS, are very proud of our Fellows. We look forward to welcoming you at the next General Assembly Meeting (GA) where you will be inducted and receive your Certificate of Fellowship”.
