Signalling the rounding off of the tenure of Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka as the 12th Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), the Governing Council of the Premier University, today, officially, requested interested candidates in the office to apply.
Professor Olayinka came into office on December 1, 2015 to commence his five year VCship.
According to a Special Release with number 4305, dated May 19, 2020, “the post of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, will become vacant by 01 December, 2020″.
“In accordance with the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Decree No. 11 of 1993 (as Amended by Decree No. 25 of 1996) and by the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1993 (Amendment) Act 2003 and Act 2012, the Governing Council of the University of Ibadan wishes to commence the process of filling the vacancy”, the release added.
Interested candidates are expected to submit their applications within six weeks of the advertisement. It is expected that the advertisement will equally be placed in three national dailies between Wednesday and Thursday May 27 and 28, 2020.
According to the information gathered, specifically, submission of applications will close on Thursday July 9, 2020.
The institution currently has a total student population of 41,743 comprising: 18,122 Undergraduates, 15,024 Postgraduates and 8,597 Open Distance Learners (ODL).
According to the release signed by the school Registrar, Olubunmi O. Faluyi, “There are 15 Halls of Residence which provide accommodation for about 30 per cent of the population of students in the regular studies mode. The University has a total staff strength of 5,339 with 1,212 housing units for both senior and junior staff. The University of Ibadan is, therefore, a truly complex organisation”.
The sought for candidate “is required to possess a good university education and should be a proven, successful manager of human and material resources. Specifically, the candidate shall be expected to: be a highly distinguished scholar of the rank of Professor, with a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience on that level and demonstrate ability to provide academic and administrative leadership for such a well-established institution; be a person of proven integrity; be not more than 65 years old as at the date of possible assumption of duty on 01 December, 2020; command the respect of the national and international academic communities through his/her track record; strengthen the bridges between staff, students and other members of the University community; be a person with a clear vision for the development of the University enjoy excellent physical and mental health; and attract the much-needed funds into the University”.
The Vice Chancellor shall hold office for a single term of five (5) years only.
Topmost contenders for the office are: Deputy Vice Chancellor, Admin, Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Professor Adeyinka Abideen Aderinto, former Dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor Remi Raji-Oyelade of the Department of English, former Dean, Faculty of Law, Professor Oluyemisi Adefunke Bamgbose, SAN, Provost of College of Medicine, Professor Emiola Oluwabunmi Olapade-Olaopa, the immediate past Chief Medical Director (CMD), University College Hospital (UCH), Professor Temitope Alonge and Professor George Olusegun Ademowo of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutic, Faculty of Basic Medical Science.
