The House of Representatives in the National Assembly, today, during its plenary session, approved the declaration of a State of Emergency by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Rivers State.
The lower legislative arm of the National Assembly also approved the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy, Ngozi Odu and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months, thereby conferring legitimacy the on the government of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as a sole administrator of the state for the period of six months.
It will be recalled that President Tinubu, on Monday cited the prolonged political crisis and governance paralysis as a reason to declare state of emergency and the suspension of the governor, his deputy, and state legislators.
Consequently, he appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as a sole administrator and Ibas was swore-in yesterday. After the swearing-in, the new sole administrator noted that his major responsibility is to restore peace in the state.
